Playdates for Mommy?

At the Washington Post, they're debating why so many of us seem to have more trouble making new friends post-kids. Thoughts?

Have a ball this weekend!

The fire truck at the Children's Museum of Maine has a new look and a new sponsor, The Hartford Financial Services Group. This exhibit has always been a hit with my son, so we're looking forward to checking out the new and hopefully improved truck. Sirens and lights, full speed ahead!

In other news from the Children's Museum, the turtle exhibit on the first floor has packed up and moved on, and is being replaced with "Have a Ball."

And if you'd rather hit the outdoors, as always, check out Kid Tracks (http://outdoors.mainetoday.com/children/kidtracks/008962.html) on MaineToday.com, for plenty of reviews and ideas.

Worth your reading time

Who doesn't yearn for a half hour -- ok, let's be real, 15 minutes -- of reading time uninterrupted by "Mommy! Mommy!" ?

Here's the best of some new magazines that you might want to make some time to flip through:

Real Simple: The March issue names its product hall of fame, and offers advice on how to fix common household odors and treat common boo-boos, from bloody noses to bumps on the head.
And even better: How to tattle and skip the gym -- without guilt.

O magazine: The February issue features editors' take on "Killer Shoes that Won't Kill Your Feet." Alas, Bean boots don't make the cut. Worth a dreamy page through, but no matter how comfy they allegedly are, I doubt I'll be road-testing any of those high heels on the Old Port cobblestones .. in February .. on ice.

Working Mother: Their Feb/March issue tackles the subject of sex and the working mom. Could your life be better here? They've got ideas for how to jump-start things ... maybe once you've rid the house of pesky odors and gotten the killer shoes.

What's on your nightstand? Pass along the things that are worth reading or clipping....
